Festive family fun – The best attractions to visit this Christmas

December brings with it a whole host of festive events that are fun for all the family. Here are just a few of the fantastic attractions that will get you and the children in the Christmas spirit as the countdown begins to the big day itself.

A Fairytale Christmas at Polesden Lacey

Polesden Lacey is hosting a captivating Fairytale Christmas experience this festive season, set in the scenic Surrey Hills. From 25 November 2023 to 7January 2024, visitors can enjoy an extravaganza inspired by Mrs Greville’s passion for entertaining, offering an ideal setting for creating lasting Christmas memories.

The estate will be transformed into a fairytale wonderland, highlighted by a grand 20ft Christmas tree and immersive fairytale scenes. A special attraction includes the opportunity to meet Father Christmas by the fireplace. It’s essential to book in advance for this sought-after experience, available on select dates in December.

An outdoor fairytale-inspired Christmas trail awaits, featuring scenes from classic stories like The Three Little Pigs and Peter Pan. For a small fee, children can embark on a self-led adventure through the trail. Additionally, a vintage Christmas carousel offers joyful rides on specific dates in December.

Creative spirits can indulge in wreath-making workshops, crafting unique wreaths from estate-gathered foliage. For moments of tranquillity, visitors can explore sculptures in the formal gardens. The Christmas themed café serves festive treats, and the Christmas shop offers a range of artisan gifts. Ticket prices vary for each event.

ELF the Musical

There are of course numerous pantomimes for the family to go and see this festive period, one of which can be found at London’s Dominion Theatre, which hosts ELF. ELF is based on the cherished film and has returned to dazzle the West End for a strictly limited season, ending on 6 January 2024.

ELF unfolds the humorous and heartwarming story of Buddy. As a baby, Buddy inadvertently found his way into Santa’s sack and grew up in the North Pole, believing himself to be an elf. Standing out due to his height and lacking the typical elf skills, Buddy feels like a misfit in the North Pole.

Buddy embarks on a journey to New York to find his biological father, who is surprisingly high on the Naughty List. Ultimately, Buddy’s journey leads him to the true meaning of family and love.

ELF at London’s Dominion Theatre is a must-see for those who cherish the holiday season and the joy of smiling. Tickets start from £32.50.
