Keep date night going strong with this Espresso Martini recipe – perfect for Valentines Day!
Ingredients:
- 50ml vodka
- 25ml coffee liqueur (e.g., Kahlúa)
- 25ml freshly brewed espresso (cooled)
- 10ml sugar syrup (optional, adjust to taste)
- Ice
- 3 coffee beans (for garnish)
Method:
- Prepare the espresso – Brew a fresh espresso shot and let it cool for a few minutes. If you’re in a hurry, place it in the fridge or freezer for a short time, but don’t let it get too cold.
- Chill your martini glass – Fill the glass with ice or place it in the freezer for a few minutes. A chilled glass enhances the drinking experience.
- Fill the cocktail shaker – Add a generous amount of ice to a cocktail shaker. This will help cool the drink quickly and create a smooth texture.
- Combine the ingredients – Pour the vodka, coffee liqueur, cooled espresso, and sugar syrup (if using) into the shaker over the ice.
- Shake vigorously – Secure the lid and shake hard for about 15-20 seconds. The key to a great Espresso Martini is getting that silky frothy layer on top, which happens when you shake it properly.
- Strain into the glass – Remove the ice from your martini glass, then use a fine strainer to pour the cocktail into the glass, ensuring a smooth texture and a rich frothy top.
- Garnish and serve – Gently place three coffee beans on the foam as a garnish. They traditionally symbolise health, wealth, and happiness.
- Enjoy – Sip and savour the perfect balance of coffee and vodka, ideal as a pick-me-up or an after-dinner treat.
Cheers!
