A recent survey revealed that holiday packing woes are an issue for most of us. The research, which revealed the state of the nation’s holiday packing habits, found over a fifth (22%) of Brits say that a phone charger is the item most likely to be forgotten from their suitcase.
Toiletries, and in particular sun protection, are the next most common items to be left behind.
Controversially, it was also revealed that a fifth of women pack more than 50 items, compared to over a quarter of men who pack just 25 items or less!
With this in mind, we have produced some packing tips which will hopefully lead to a less stressful start to your well-deserved Easter holiday plans:
Packing a suitcase is rather like wrapping presents. It seems deceptively easy, but most of us envy those who manage to be so effortlessly neat.
If your luggage is literally bulging at the seams, or perhaps bears a passing resemblance to some form of spring-loaded booby trap, here are a few tips which may make the task ahead a tad easier…
- Make a list – It sounds simple but the last thing you want to do is zip up your bag and then find you can’t remember if you packed the sun cream, leaving you with little option but to empty the contents back on to the bed.
Ticking stuff off makes it less likely you’ll leave anything behind and may help you decide the order you place items in. Sand shoes at the bottom, a towel on top is a good starting point!
- Leave space – It may be tempting to fill every last inch of space in your suitcase, but remember that you should leave enough room for souvenirs and any other items you buy while away.
- Think about a vacuum pack – These are a good way to keep clothes packed neatly together and safe from any unfortunate spillages.
- Be ruthless – We’ve all had holidays when we’ve only worn half the clothes we packed or taken away three weighty reads and barely finished the first before boarding the flight home. This goes to show that half the items we think are essential can probably be left at home, so try and be firm with yourself about what you take.
