If your Easter plans involve staying close to home this year, there’s still plenty of family-friendly fun in around Surrey including lots of free events.
The Giant egg hunt returns to RHS Garden Wisley this Easter. The gardens will be open from April 1 to 17, 10am to 6pm daily with activities and times varying each day. All activities are included with garden admission and are free to RHS members and children under 5. To book visit: rhs.org.uk/gardens/wisely
Your youngsters might like to hunt for something less traditional than the Easter bunny. If so, why not check out the Superworm trail at Wakehurst Place, in Ardingly, near Haywards Heath.
This exciting adventure through Wakehurst’s ornamental gardens and striking woodland features the story of the evil Wizard Lizard who has lost his magical flower. Can your youngsters help Superworm and his friends find it before the Wizard Lizard does?
Interactive activities and sculptures will bring the trail to life – you’ll need to enlist the help of Superworm’s friends to point you in the right direction but watch out for that Crow!
The event takes place from Thursday 30 March to Sunday 23 April, from 10am to 5.30pm. The trail costs £14.95 for adults and children under 16 are free. To book visit kew.org/Wakehurst
If you prefer a more traditional Easter trail, why not head to Hatchlands Park in East Clandon, near Guildford, from April 1 to 16.
Families can explore the parkland with fun games and challenges while counting how many painted eggs they can spot.
At the end they can choose from either a dairy or a vegan and ‘free from’ chocolate egg. Booking is not required.
Winkworth Arboretum in Godalming is also holding an Easter trail from 1st to 16th April. The price of the trail is £3 per child and includes a chocolate, vegan or ‘free from’ egg. Booking is advisable at nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/surrey/winkworth-arboretum
