Preparations are well underway for the upcoming Coronation of King Charles III. A whole host of public events are being planned in and around London to celebrate the occasion, with something for everyone to enjoy.
The festivities will kick off on Saturday 6th May, when King Charles and his Queen Consort, Camilla formally make their procession from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Abbey.
After the Coronation service, they will return to Buckingham Palace in a larger procession, which will include other members of the Royal Family. The day’s events will conclude with The King and The Queen Consort appearing on the balcony of Buckingham Palace.
On Sunday, 7th May 2023, a special Coronation Concert will be held at Windsor Castle.
The concert will bring together global music icons, contemporary stars, and performers from the world of dance to celebrate the occasion.
The event will feature a world-class orchestra playing musical favourites, spoken word sequences delivered by stars of stage and screen, and a performance by The Coronation Choir, created from the nation’s community choirs and amateur singers.
The show will end with a celebration called ‘Lighting up the Nation,’ with iconic locations across the UK being lit up with projections, lasers, drone displays, and illuminations.
The Coronation Big Lunch will be held on Sunday, 7th May and aims to encourage neighbours and communities across the UK to share food and fun together.
The Big Lunch team at the Eden Project will oversee and organise the event, which will take place in neighbourhoods across the UK, from a cup of tea with a neighbour to a street party.
The Big Help Out will be held on Monday, 8th May 2023, and will encourage people to volunteer and support their local communities. Organised by The Together Coalition and partners such as The Scouts, the Royal Voluntary Service, and faith groups, The Big Help Out aims to bring communities together and aims to create a lasting volunteering legacy from the Coronation Weekend.
